The technique uses heat to make physical changes and force reactions in materials. TGA quantitatively measures the mass change in materials that are associated with thermal degradation and transition. The technique is used to record the change in mass that occurs from decomposition, dehydration, and oxidation of a sample with temperature and time.
Characteristic thermogravimetric curves are used for chemical compounds and specific materials. The unique sequence from physicochemical reactions, which are related to the molecular structure of the sample, are the reasons for that.
(TGA/FTIR) can provide detailed FTIR analysis of evolved gases when used in the combination of Infra-red spectroscopy, FTIR.
