Fibres were observed in a batch of consumer healthcare products when the routine quality inspections were performed. The batch was not released in the commercial market but was investigated in order to identify the source of contamination.
The Solution
The fibres were examined and isolated by our experts with the assistance of Polarized Light Microscopy. Optical microscopy was used to determine the morphology, diameter, size, length and colour of the fibre. The fibre was compared to a range of potential sources including clothes and several other items.
The Client’s Benefit
Our investigation shed light to the fact that the bushes used in the cleaning procedures were degrading and losing minute brush hair fibres. As a result, the client was able to adopt to better cleaning procedures to avoid this instance in the future as well.
