The Company

A Battery manufacturing company based in Andhra Pradesh, Supplying batteries to 4 Wheeler manufacturing Automobile company. During installation of batteries into 4 wheelers vehicles, the terminals of Battery are found to develop cracks on clamping which leads to acid leakage from the terminals.

The Challenge

The terminals of Battery were found to develop cracks on clamping which leads to acid leakage from the terminals. Consultation requested to NRPL: We would request to analyze the battery terminal/Bush on the below areas to identify the root causes and suggesting the remedies.

  • Reasons for crack initiation
  • Reasons for crack propagation
  • Mechanism of crack propagation
  • nvestigation of crack development at other areas of the bush
  • Remedies to control crack generation and propagation at terminal/ bush

The Solution

NRPL is supporting automobile Industry with dedicated expertise, using its decades of experience in performing failure mode analysis and other instrumental applications like SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), Optical Microscopy, FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), XRD (X-ray powder diffraction), CT Scan, and EDX/EDS (Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy), with highly qualified specialists and qualified Experts on the team. NRPL is providing services & support and advice to automobile engineering industry based on experience.

NRPL has taken the challenge, successfully investigated & identified the problem & suggested the remedies for the same. We have performed failure mode analysis using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). NRPL has suggested certain changes to be implemented during bush manufacturing to avoid the problem.
